HICKORY, NC – Ryan and Krissie Newman have been named grand marshals of the Dec. 9 Hickory Jaycees Christmas Parade due to their involvement with a local rescue group in Hickory, North Carolina.

The Newmans are honorary co-chairs of the Human Society's capital campaign and h in Hickory, North Carolinaave pledged $400,000 towards the construction of a 14,000-square-foot, no-kill animal shelter, regional spay/neuter clinic and education center. Krissie is also on the organization's board of directors.

Parade Chairwoman Mandy Pitts said the couple plans to ride in one of Newman's cars with one of their rescued dogs, Mopar. The rescue group's staff and volunteers plan to walk behind the Newmans with shelter dogs and hand out literature to parade watchers.
Other members of the racing community who have been parade grand marshals in Hickory, NC are 1999 NASCAR champion Dale Jarrett and two-time NASCAR champion Ned Jarrett, both Hickory natives.

The parade will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 9th. The parade route will begin on First Avenue NW and end on Main Avenue in downtown Hickory, NC. For details about the parade, visit http://www.hickoryjc.org/.
