A FOUNDATION TO BUILD ON

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 2008--Pat Frank's article from FrankTalkOnline about the Ryan Newman Foundation...  Way back in February we received the following comment from a reader through the FRANK TALK website:

"Well, I will start by saying that I love the magazine. Now while I do not always agree with your views on animal rights and sometimes don't like the politics involved in some of your articles, I do very much enjoy the pet articles that offer advice and the off-the-beat ones with the pictures of everyone's’ pets. With all that said, I am a HUGE NASCAR fan, and I came across a link from my favorite driver and thought you would enjoy the work that he does for animals. Attached is the link; I thought that maybe this could be an idea for an article sometime since sports celebrities are in a negative light right now (for obvious reasons).   This at least shows that there are some caring sports stars in the world. Keep up the good work you guys are doing. I read it every week. Thanks … Jeff M."

In truth, I thought Jeff’s idea of writing about NASCAR driver Ryan Newman’s work for the animals was a very good idea and I planned on doing so, but Jeff’s communication got “lost” when data was transferred to my new computer. In other words, I lost my “reminders “ of upcoming articles to write … and, boy, do I ever depend on reminders! Well, I just happened to come across Jeff’s e-mail, and I want to apologize to him for being so “late” with his idea.

Being the animaI lover that I am, I read Ryan Newman’s website with great interest. The Ryan Newman Foundation has a wonderful mission! It not only seeks to educate and encourage people to spay/neuter their pets and to adopt dogs and cats from animal shelters but also to educate children and adults about the importance of conservation so the beauty of the great outdoors can be appreciated by future generations ... and to provide college scholarship funding through the Rich Vogler Scholarship program to students interested in auto racing careers.
