Ryan Newman Foundation Partners with Martin Truex Jr. Foundation and Second Harvest Food Bank During Charlotte Race Week
The Ryan Newman Foundation (RNF), along with the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina and The Martin Truex Jr. Foundation (MTJF) will seek to end hunger in their local communities during race weeks at Lowe’s Motor Speedway (LMS) in May, 2009. The three organizations will collect canned goods, non-perishable food items and pet food at various locations during the Sprint All-Star week and the Coca-Cola 600 festivities.
A collection area food donations for people and pets will be set up next to the Newman Foundation’s Pit Road Pets tent located on the Little’s property directly across from the main entrance at LMS on May 23 - 24 from Noon to 5 p.m. to collect the canned and pet food items. All fans who participate in the food drive will have the opportunity to register to win an ultimate fan basket filled with merchandise from both drivers and more.
Ryan Newman, NASCAR Sprint Cup driver of the #39 U.S. Army Chevy, explains, “During these hard economic times it is difficult for many families to afford pet food. A lot of animal shelters have seen a rise in the number of people having to give up their pets this year because they can’t afford to feed them. The Ryan Newman Foundation would like to help those families keep their pets. We also know of families who have shared their own food with their pets because they care so much for them. We want to make sure the entire family has enough food for everyone. That’s why we are asking NASCAR fans to help those who are less fortunate by donating food for people and their pets during the upcoming Charlotte race weekends.”
“I am thankful for the opportunity to give back to our community during hard economic times,” said Martin Truex Jr. “I urge all fans attending the race to bring a canned good or drop it off at one of our Mooresville locations. It may seem like a small donation, but it goes so far for our neighbors, friends and family in need.”
The Ryan Newman Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, which was established in January 2005 by NASCAR driver Ryan Newman and his wife, Krissie. The mission of the foundation is to educate and encourage people to spay/neuter their pets and to adopt dogs and cats from animal shelters; to educate children and adults about the importance of conservation so the beauty of the great outdoors can be appreciated by future generations; and to provide college scholarship funding through the Rich Vogler Scholarship program to students interested in auto racing careers. The Ryan Newman Foundation is proud to be part of The NASCAR Foundation's family of charities.
