Newmans
saving lives of dogs across America
By Kris Johnson - Associate Editor
Posted Tue., Feb. 19, 2008
Dog lovers probably recognize "Marley & Me" as the title of a
non-fiction bestseller based on the life of a beloved pooch
bearing that name. Harley & Me could be the name of Daytona 500
winner Ryan Newman’s book, should he ever choose to write one.
To be fair, though, Newman would have to pen several, given his
lifelong love of dogs and chosen avocation. — FULL

Ryan and Krissie their dogs |
The Ryan Newman Foundation was formed in January 2005 by Ryan and Krissie
Newman. Because the foundation is in the early stages of development, a
grant cycle has not yet been scheduled.
The major goal of the foundation
in its first year will be to raise funds for an endowment from which annual
interest will be used to fund nonprofit agencies through a grant process and
students through a scholarship process. The nonprofit foundation is currently
seeking donations to build this endowment established by Ryan and Krissie
Newman. When the foundation begins our funding cycle, we will focus on three
main area of interest--companion animal welfare; conservation and preservation
of wildlife; and college scholarships for auto racers. When a scholarship
and grant process is created, the details, application and deadline will be
posted on this website.
The Ryan Newman Foundation was established to
provide philanthropic efforts that would enrich the lives of people and animals
throughout the nation. The foundation has identified three primary areas of
focus:
- To help humane organizations establish and maintain programs that will
reduce the overpopulation and euthanization of abandoned and unwanted dogs
and cats, increase the adoption of homeless pets, provide humane education
to youth and adults, and prevent cruelty to animals while encouraging
collaboration between humane societies, animal rescue groups and animal
control agencies. —Companion
Animals
- To help nonprofit organizations in the preservation and conservation of
wildlife and their environment, including but not limited to fish, game
animals and other animals of the woodlands of the United States. —Conservation
& Preservation of Wildlife
- To provide scholarships for students pursuing a degree at a university
or college while continuing their involvement in quarter midget, midget and
Silver Crown auto racing. —Auto
