(Statesville, NC – August 24, 2012) The Ryan Newman Foundation is scheduled to take part in the First Annual Veteran Stand Down in Asheville, North Carolina on Thursday, September 6th.
The event will take place from 9:00 am – noon at the Stephens-Lee Recreation Center located at 30 George Washington Carver Avenue in the heart of downtown. The door will be open to any Veteran experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness.
Those attending will be offered breakfast, haircuts, supplies and the opportunity to meet with representatives from employment, education, legal, benefits, medical, housing, and mental health services departments.
The Ryan Newman Foundation will be on hand to offer food, bedding, crates, collars, leashes and other pet supplies to those with pets. This is the second stand down event for the Foundation this year. The first was in Hickory, North Carolina and 75 bags were provided for many wonderful people and their pets. We are really looking forward to helping everyone we can in Asheville.
The Foundation will be offering a “Spay Day” at the Humane Alliance for veterans to have their pets spayed or neutered free of charge. The Foundation will cover the cost for all exams, surgeries and vaccinations. The Humane Alliance is working with event coordinators and will have their transport truck pick up the pets for surgery and bring them back later in the day all fixed up and ready to lead a healthier life.
The surgery date is scheduled for Wednesday, September 12th and appointments can be set up prior to and at the Stand Down event. Our goal is 22 surgeries for the day.
At the conclusion of the Stand Down, the Foundation will visit another event taking place. Project Connect is an event for those who have hit hard times and could use some help. It runs from 8:00 am – 1:00 pm and is located at 5 Oak Street in Asheville.
Bags of pet food and supplies will be given to families in need.
